Sue and I had a great first night in New Orleans. Our host Matthew gave us a very helpful overview of the city and some really good recommendations for sightseeing and dining (for example: 10 cent martinis at happy hour at a local restaurant). He sent us to "Ye Olde College Inn" for dinner followed by Zydeco music night at a club called "Rock and Bowl" right next to the restaurant. The food and service was great. We had fried oysters with blue cheese, "beef debris with chips", and our main was - Crawfish Delacroix Baked Gulf Fish Filet, Steamed White Rice, Crawfish Etouffee 19
Dessert was fried bread pudding....we thought of Dad while eating that.
Our waiter was so good - he literally invited us to his home for crawfish the next time we're in New Orleans. We even ran into him in the parking lot later on and talked for another 10 minutes while waiting for our cab. Talk about Southern hospitality! The music at the club was Zydeco music - the lead singer played the hell out of an accordian while about 200 people from the ages of 21 to 71 were dancing and having a blast. We're about to have our first breakfast here and then off for a walk.
